Candle care

01

Your first burn matters

The first time you light your candle, let it burn until the melted wax reaches the edges of the vessel. This can take around 2 to 4 hours. This gives the wax an even burn memory and helps prevent tunnelling, where the candle burns down through the centre while wax remains around the sides. Never burn your candle for more than 4 hours at a time.

02

Trim the wick

Before each burn, allow the candle to cool completely, then trim the wick to around 5mm. A shorter, clean wick helps create a steadier flame and reduces smoke and soot. Remove any trimmed wick before lighting.

03

Find the right spot

Place your candle on a stable, level and heat resistant surface, away from draughts, open windows, fans and anything that could catch fire. Give your candle some space while it burns. If you are lighting more than one candle, keep them at least 10cm apart.

04

When it's time to extinguish

For the cleanest finish, use a candle snuffer if you have one. If you don't, gently blow out the flame and allow the wax to cool before moving your candle. Once extinguished, check that the wick is upright and centred, ready for its next burn. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

05

Keep it looking its best

When your candle isn't in use, keep it somewhere cool and dry, away from direct sunlight and heat. Keeping the surface free from dust and debris will also help your candle burn beautifully. Never place anything into the melted wax.

06

When your candle is finished

Once you've reached the end of your candle, allow the vessel to cool completely before cleaning it. Your frosted glass vessel was chosen to be kept, so don't be too quick to part with it. Wipe away any remaining wax and clean the vessel gently before giving it a new life elsewhere in your home.

A candle should always be treated as an open flame. Keep away from children, pets and anything flammable.
